Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving, the Associate Director, Integrated Marketing Strategy is responsible for leading annual giving efforts in concert with the University's brand standards, communication strategies, and institutional priorities. The incumbent has the responsibility to lead and execute a best in class, multi-channel direct marketing and Phonathon program in support of the Institution's strategic fundraising and development plan. The Associate Director acts as a key liaison to the Marketing and Communication Department for production coordination of fundraising materials across multi-media platforms. The incumbent is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive mass-market fundraising program to support the institution's mission and build a pipeline to improve participation, dollars raised, and donors engaged. Responsibilities include preparing and executing a detailed operating plan and calendar each fiscal year, utilizing a multi-channel marketing approach, and helping the IA division's efforts to build a culture of philanthropy across the institution. The Associate Director's work is integral to achieving fundraising goals and will result in activities to acquire, re-activate, retain, and upgrade annual donors and emphasize on growing RWU's alumni participation, donor retention rate, dollars raised, and ultimately improve the University's national ranking.
Annual Giving Program Management
Work directly with staff to create integrated fundraising campaigns for Annual Giving audiences in conjunction with the student phone program and online solicitation efforts.
Promote message, purpose, and benefits of giving to Roger Williams University and School of Law.
Direct and oversee the design, content, packaging and creativity for all print marketing appeals.
Determine timelines and set appropriate expectations with clients and colleagues.
Collaborate with University departments and constituents to ensure coordination of appeal schedules, messaging, and content.
Negotiate pricing and select appropriate print and direct mail vendors for production.
Manage vendors to produce highly segmented, customized direct mail appeals with complex variables, which includes written instructions on production efforts.
Develop, maintain, and execute a multi-channel annual giving plan and deploy marketing materials and strategies to execute a best-in-class program and achieve growing results for dollars and donors.
Develop and own digital, comprehensive solicitation calendar in conjunction with major marketing themes.
Work with the supervisor to set aggressive participation, donor, and dollar goals across channels and constituencies to grow RWU's donor base through a multi-channel approach.
Collaborate with colleagues to further market the mass-fundraising efforts and develop coordination between multi-channel fundraising programs and event strategies.
Serve as a liaison to Advancement Services to maximize efficiencies and ensure proper data and records management while maintaining coordination between online giving forms and multi-channel fundraising strategies and adhering to proper data management principles.
Direct key process enhancements, in collaboration with staff, to devise ask amounts and manage appeal codes, analysis, and other key functions that support the overall multi-channel fundraising program.
Prepare strategic and operational plans for Annual Giving and the Phonathon program, making goal recommendations and administering the budget to ensure sound fiscal expenditures and management.
Manage the Advancement Appeals Calendar for all Annual Giving and special campaign solicitations, print and digital, across multiple giving platforms.
Plan and execute a variety of fundraising campaigns across multiple giving platforms to increase engagement and maximize giving and participation rates among many constituencies.
Assist in the execution of Annual Giving donor stewardship, as required, and participate in promoting positive and effective donor relations.
Manage and enhance the RWU Day of Giving Ambassador program, including member recruitment, content strategy, and managing relationships with University partners.
Work with highly confidential data on a daily basis, including personal giving and contact information for various University constituencies.
Assist in the production of Annual Giving appeals, including preparing lists and making strategic recommendations to optimize campaigns, as required.
Work with colleagues across the division to gain strong participation in Annual Giving and execute strategies for moving donors to higher giving levels.
Phonathon Program Coordination
Supervise the Phonathon program, including obtaining confidential data, overseeing data clean up, and following-up on alumni or prospect questions/issues raised.
Write Phonathon calling scripts, direct mail and email solicitations, and enter pledges daily.
Oversee the Phonathon pledge reminders on a daily basis and send out reminders.
Organize and strategize Phonathon calling schedule to optimize direct mail and email solicitations.
Make decisions about prospect assignments and monitor nightly statistics and performance.
Conduct the hiring and training of student callers and student supervisors.
Lead efforts to motivate, inspire, and engage student callers, including designing and overseeing an incentive program.
Supervise student callers during call sessions and provide direction and feedback to maintain Phonathon program standards.
Analyze Phonathon statistics, progress towards strategic goals, and make recommendations for improvement.
Obtain appropriate data, develop and/or edit scripts, and follow up on alumni or prospect questions and issues raised during the Phonathon.
Maintain data integrity and identification of alumni counts, and collaborate to provide alumni participation statistics and reports.
Develop and analyze fundraising reports that provide progress towards goals, appeals, and fundraising projects.
Create and evaluate reports that provide information on improving effectiveness of future solicitations, social media objectives, and campaign performance key metrics.
Produce and analyze various reports and data to demonstrate the effectiveness of solicitation strategies and communications, and recommend ways to enhance the effectiveness and success of special fundraising campaigns.
Collaborate with colleagues to link fundraising direct marketing activities to overall communications efforts by employing creative use of new and emerging channels and a high volume of traditional channels.
Utilize digital analytics tools, predictive modeling, segmentation, and other data-driven techniques to ensure communications are personalized, timely and consistent and annual giving goals are achieved.
Serve as the key communication contact in developing electronic solicitations.
Work closely with colleagues and appropriate staff to coordinate and optimize effective electronic communications and solicitation tactics in support of the overall fundraising and engagement strategic plan.
Create, edit, and review integrated solicitation communication materials, including strategic print materials, e-mail content, and online giving pages.
Deliver timely and strategic messaging to compliment integrated campaigns and advise on the most optimal mix of text, imagery, video, etc. to use across multiple communication channels.
Participate in promoting positive and effective communications.
Marketing and Multi-Media Strategies
Provide strategy for dashboard analysis and analyze back-end results and responses.
Develop and implement strategy for print marketing fundraising for schools, units, programs and departments across the University and other appeals in line with the strategic priorities, and exercise creative vision when developing marketing efforts.
Build and manage integrated marketing campaigns, determine a goal-achieving segmentation strategy, optimize channel performance, and report campaign results to leadership.
Develop segmentation strategy, including use of user personas to maximize impact of campaigns.
Solve advanced marketing challenges through segmentation strategy, testing packages and initiatives, and oversee implementation of A/B testing protocol and procedures.
Develop strategy for paid advertising such as Facebook ads and sponsored posts.
Work with the Major Gift Officers to set the annual strategy for solicitations before the start of each year.
Assist in creating a more engaging and integrated social brand strategy, performing ongoing monitoring and optimizing the allocation of resources.
Act as a digital engagement officer, using social channel tools to identify and further engage those whom influence, potential prospects, and colleagues.
Develop and determine strategies for annual donor segments to retain long-term donors, acquire new donors, and cultivate buy-in among partners.
Collaborate to create engaging social media campaigns and content strategies across social media outlets, blogs and on-line communities.
Develop new strategies to increase the Institution's online visibility via social media and ensure that social media tools/feeds are generating relevant and useful information.
Research new tools and trends in higher education to keep abreast of the latest industry developments and increase overall social media campaign efficiency.
Maintain a full understanding of social media topics, including higher education and our diverse target markets.
Train and advise colleagues and volunteer alumni, when applicable, in best practices for social media engagement and ensure the adoption of proper social media techniques.
Identify new opportunities and recommendations for improving Institutional Advancement's search traffic and gifts by researching and recommending the most up-to-date search, paid search and social media trends.
Advise on targeted content, based on a user's website experience, to optimize their engagement and develop a stronger relationship with users.
Analyze website data and analytics and utilize the information to make adjustments and personalize campaigns.
Analyze ROI data across platforms, including social media.
Devise, conceptualize and implement a strategy for digital tactics intended for a broad audience of alumni, donors, parents, faculty and staff.
Plan and implement appropriate e-mail solicitations based on a broader digital strategy that incorporates multiple channels.
Manage the regular updating of content in various media venues, and deploy content effectively, utilizing data driven decisions to determine maximum impact and conduct audits to assess effectiveness of tactics.
Research products, series, emerging technologies and platforms and serve as the team expert, making all digital recommendations.
Understand and apply knowledge of University fundraising priorities and goals.
Develop strategies to manage and continuously improve the donor experience.
Manage central and college/unit based electronic appeals.
Manage the RWU Crowdfunding platform, including administration of projects, enforcement of policies, and platform enhancements.
Assist with cultivating and coordinating crowdfunding projects and find ways to strengthen the relationship between University and donor interests.
Solve issues quickly and effectively, following through on project commitments and ensuring that critical timelines are met.
Prepare for potential issues and look for fundraising opportunities in advance of launching a Crowdfunding project, ensuring donors are reached and the message content represents RWU in a favorable way.
Provide annual and strategic planning for Major Gift Officers in partnership with the Assistant Vice President.
Work to secure annual donations to Civic Scholars from various committee members.
Work to set the annual call center and online calendar and messaging for Civic Scholars.
Act as liaison to the Marketing and Communications department for artwork and other graphic design projects related to special appeal campaigns.
Co-chair and advise the Campus Campaign Committee in the development of the annual Faculty/Staff Gift Campaign.
Oversee faculty/staff solicitation program, including crafting strategies and associated communications (and stewardship programming/events) to promote increased participation.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in English, Management or Communications, or a related field.
Three years of experience in administering an annual giving program and demonstrated ability to carry out program initiatives.
Ability to work with groups and organizations, both internal and external to the University.
Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact and collaborate with colleagues of various responsibility areas in a professional manner.
Excellent written and oral communications skills, especially in drafting appeal and fundraising marketing language.
Must possess an ability to work with a diverse constituency of donors representing the community.
Excellent planning and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to manage and motivate volunteers.
Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting; direct experience with fundraising, marketing, advertising or managing a complex annual giving campaign within a higher education institution.
Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple large-scale projects, plan, and unify efforts across multiple teams.
Ability to apply good judgment and discretion when dealing with highly confidential information.
Possess an ROI-mindset when establishing priorities and use of limited resources.
Must be a detail-oriented, self-starter with an ability to work independently to meet challenging timelines and achieve goals.

Direct mail and phone-a-thon solicitation experience within a non-profit or higher education setting.
Experience with the University's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Emma, Social Toaster and MobileCause.
